My Therapeutic Approach

An integrative approach that honors your story and supports lasting emotional well-being.
My therapeutic style is direct, creative, and compassionate, and I strive to provide an inclusive, affirmative, and safe environment. I enjoy working with people of all gender identities, sexual orientations, expressions, religions, ethnicities, and lifestyles.

Working at your pace, we will explore the past and present experiences that shape who you are, while also identifying your strengths, resilience, and challenges. I love supporting my clients as they create personally meaningful and fulfilling lives through increased self-awareness, acceptance, connection, and valued action. By connecting with you in a meaningful way, I can help you as an individual, couple, or family break free from old, harmful, and disconnecting patterns, and identify, follow through on, and accomplish your life goals.

Susan Terkhorn, LMFT, CST

Hi and welcome to Counseling Services of Denver, the private practice of Susan Terkhorn. I am a sex and relationship therapist who helps individuals, couples, and families find connection, healing, and personal growth within themselves and with those closest to them.

My passion is helping clients overcome the obstacles in their lives that often leave them feeling stuck, helpless, and disconnected. I have experience working with couples, families, and individuals facing concerns such as communication challenges, sexual issues, depression, past trauma, infidelity, sexual dysfunction, and sexual and gender identity questions.

In addition to my formal training as a therapist, I often draw on my life experiences to guide my work, bringing both professional expertise and real-world perspective into the therapeutic process. Outside of the therapy room, I am passionate about personal growth and staying connected to myself through meditation, yoga, travel, and spending time in nature.

When I’m not in my office, I enjoy being with my family, friends, and dogs. Creativity is also an important outlet in my life and finds expression through gardening, painting, drawing, and stone carving. It is my goal to show up authentically every day, not only for myself but also for those who allow me to be part of their healing journey.
